Twitter cooked me a stew
Twitter is slowly becoming a corporate tool in many ways. It is used to propagate affiliate links and provide a self-serving media presence for businesses across the globe. The more consumers sign up and use the service, the larger a target for business savvy individuals the service becomes.
That’s just the way the world works, and I’m fine with that.
The more mainstream something becomes, the more people try and discredit or promote negative views toward it. Music is a great example: a band can be ‘cool and edgy’ because it isn’t well known. The second they gain media exposure and move into the mainstream they are no longer cool – and if they are it is for a different set of reasons. It’s not the bands fault, and they don’t deserve to be viewed negatively because they were successful – yet they are.
Despite claims that Twitter is little more than a toilet wall as far as conversation is concerned, and the ‘statistics’ flying about regarding what percentage of tweets can be filed into the ‘dribble’ category – Twitter helped me cook a stew today.
I tweeted this:
chrisrio Ok, so i have some blade steak and vegetables. What herbs do I add to stew? help me buddies! ;D
Within 10 minutes I had a dozen replies from Twitter users, some from people who follow literally thousands of users. Despite that huge stream of information heading their way, they still managed to not only read my lonely little tweet – but help me out.

I’m still getting help, an hour on.
Sure, this is a mundane example. All I did was ask a question on the Internet and received an answer. The important thing to remember is that despite negative press – Twitter is still a positive, helpful resource for regular folks like you and I.
I’d like to thank the first 5 Twitter users who came to my rescue today. Dinner is in the oven and it smells delicious!
